On Works of Love

The non-Fight Club cover. Each Saturday night at 7:00 pm, a group of people from my church have been meeting to discuss this work over freshly-brewed coffee around a little wooden kitchen table of which I have grown very fond.  When I first read the book (quite slowly, over the lengthy period between early summer 2009 and May 2010), each chapter seemed to fall perfectly into the middle of my varied circumstances throughout the year, and through each chapter God began to change the way I thought about others, about community, and about true Christian love.  Now, discussing these same chapters with those in my church community has rekindled my already deep-seated appreciation of and affection for the work.  I hope that my faltering attempts to recount the content of that appreciation might serve to entice others to read (or to continue to exchange thoughts on) what has proven in my life to be an incomparably challenging, convicting, and altogether life-changing work.
